In Need of Wisdom

Wisdom from Above--mixed media by Elva Robinson
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." James 1:5, New International Version
I'm in constant need of wisdom. Sometimes I'm more aware of my need than at others, but the need is always there. This past weekend was one of those times when I became acutely aware of that need.
This weekend, I found out that two of the three places that have been showing my my work are closing, at least temporarily. Needless to say, upon finding this out, I was a bit depressed. I tried hard not to panic, and almost succeeded. My reaction was pretty normal. After all, for an artist to sell work, it has to be seen, and this meant a bunch more pieces were just going back into storage.
After the emotions subsided, it was time to seek wisdom--not mine, but God's. Such seeking doesn't always yield immediate answers, but it puts my focus in the right place: on Him, not on my surrounding circumstances. With that shift in focus, I can be confident that the answers will eventually come.
Though I did this work, "Wisdom from Above," sometime last year, it fits where I am right now, which is why I chose to write about it today. It reminds me that wisdom is available for those who seek it.
The bird-like shapes that form the column on the right side of the work show the constant activity of the Spirit of God in providing wisdom to His children. This wisdom is precious, thus the use of crystal beads embedded within the dove-like shapes. This column is the brightest part of the entire piece, just as God's wisdom brings illumination to our darkness and confusion. That is what I seek. That is what we all should seek.
May you be surrounded by God's wisdom.
